Museological Mission and Programme

The Museum of Portimão is a permanent observatory and a cultural mediation structure to investigate, conserve, interpret, publicise and value the most relevant material and immaterial testimonies of the history, heritage, territory, memory and identity of the local and regional community, in its interaction with the world.

Its museology programme is based on four main objectives:

• • Rehabilitate the industrial and cultural heritage;
• • Enhance the city-river relationship;
• • Interpret and reinforce the historical, territorial and social evolution of the community;
• • To encourage the formation of new publics, developing a cultural offer of quality.
