Lota de Alvor

The old auction house was the subject of restoration and conservation work by the Portimão Council, to make the building a «privileged space for the enhancement of heritage and cultural dynamism of the village and its people».

The renewed auction is prepared to pay homage to the community of Alvor and the richness of its maritime heritage, now featuring an interactive kiosk that will provide visitors with access to detailed information on the identity matrix of the historic town.

For this purpose, the property benefited from a requalification project started in 2022 by the Municipality of Portimão, under the MAR2020 programme.

The interactive kiosk includes data on human occupation in the area, with some of the main activities and spaces over time, the tangible and intangible heritage made up of the main local fishing arts and exploration of the Ria de Alvor, without forgetting the historic properties and the rich oral and gastronomic tradition, among other reasons of interest.

Initiated in May 2022 and budgeted at 234 euros, of which more than 198 from the community, this intervention represents, an out-of-doors project of the Museum of Portimão, which, in the last three years, collected assets from of the population of Alvor, who greatly contributed to the interactive module now available.

It is part of the municipal plans to integrate the auction and the surrounding area into tourist circuits related to cultural and natural heritage, maritime, fishing and environmental sustainability or ecotourism, creating conditions for short guided walks along the Ria de Alvor on themes of its history and experiences, or centered on the rich local biodiversity.
